THE Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has instructed the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation and Deaths in Custody Unit to promptly finalise its investigation into the death of lorry driver M Manisegaran, who died while in police custody.

According to the AGC, the expedited completion of the inquiry is necessary so that the matter can be referred to the Coroner’s Court to determine the cause and circumstances of his death. The full investigation report is expected to reach the AGC in the near future.

“This department remains committed to ensuring that every case of death in custody is handled transparently, comprehensively and in accordance with the laws in force,” the AGC said.

The directive comes after Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo recently urged the AGC to clarify allegations that the death of the lorry driver had gone uninvestigated for more than nine months.

His call was followed by a clear instruction from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who yesterday ordered the Police to conduct an open, transparent and thorough probe “without shielding any party” in relation to deaths occurring in custody across the country. - December 6, 2025
