Well, when people ask me how old I am, I say I'm a 25-year-old doing my degree, people judge me for being too old to take my degree, but looking to almost 9-10 years ago seems like a long time ago. I was still in secondary school. I just got out of school and I had no idea what I was going to do in life.
School for me personally was a mixed experience for me. Leaving school, I never wanted to pursue my education, but life has its twists and turns. Looking back at it now, school taught me the basics of learning what I liked and did not like.
For me, I wasn't a fan of the theoretical subjects and knew that I was a more hands-on person. I felt like exams weren't the way to go for me. I knew that the minute I stepped out of school, this was where life was going to begin for me. This is where the real exams are going to begin. Gone are the days when the only thing I had to think about was deadlines. Gone are the days when I think grades will define my status quo in school.
I was stressed about writing a 1000-word essay back then, but now as I take more responsibility, I have to worry about things such as making a living, finding a job, my health, dealing with rejections and experiencing what twists and turns life has to offer.
I thought at the time I did not want to pursue my education. I knew that I wasn't excelling in the studying side of life. I knew I wanted to do something creative, but I thought that I needed some sort of education to be able to pursue that dream. So I worked a few jobs just to give me an idea of what I wanted to do. I feel like it's ok to be unsure in life, but it's important to try out new things before you make a decision.
Eventually, after working few almost 4 years, it took me to study. Why I wanted to do so? I just wanted to prove to people who doubted me in the past and mostly help complement the experience that I gained with an education section.
If you were to look at my resume, my education sector only contains like four sentences and I didn't brag about what grades I got, I just wanted to show more of my experience which I had.
Thanks to college, I discovered my filming passion and got recognition for the films that I have been part of.
Looking back at it now, I learnt three things: grades don't mean anything to me and it's just an indication of my work, the school only covered five per cent of my life and once you step into the real world, that's where you begin with life.
So what I didn't get an A? So what if I fail? I knew that I'd be able to stand out with my experience.
Life only begins the minute you get out of school. My only regret is not knowing this earlier but then again, that's the reason why we go through life.
