Since news got out last week that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was going to seek permission from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to dissolve the Parliament, Malaysians have been waiting for the outcome with bated breath.

Just now, Ismail Sabri announced in a press conference that Parliament has been dissolved.

Consequently, the National Palace also released a statement stating that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had no choice but to approve of Sabri’s request due to “disappointing” political developments.

“His Majesty expresses disappointment at the recent political developments and His Majesty has no choice but to consent to the request of the Prime Minister in order to return the mandate to the people so that they are able to elect a stable government.”

In granting the consent, the Agong said the decision was made in accordance with his authority as under Articles 40(2)(b) and 55(2) of the Federal Constitution.

His Majesty shares that Ismail Sabri had sought an unscheduled audience around noon on October 9 seeking Parliament’s dissolution effective October 10.

His Majesty also highlights that a strong nation is vital in ensuring continued political stability and economic prosperity for the sake of the country and its people.

“Therefore, His Majesty expresses hope that the Election Commission will hold the 15th General Elections at the earliest convenience while taking into account the Northeast Monsoon that is expected to begin in mid-November 2022.”
