The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, has personally donated RM1,000 each to 308 families affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire through the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation.
The donations were distributed at the Putra Heights Mosque, where some victims are temporarily housed. Sultan Ibrahim also spent 40 minutes visiting the blast site, which left a 10-meter-deep crater.
The fire, which lasted eight hours and erupted on Tuesday morning along Jalan Putra Harmoni, severely damaged a 500-meter section of the gas pipeline, affecting homes and vehicles.
A total of 235 premises were impacted, with 87 houses declared a total loss and unfit for occupation, while 148 others require repairs before they can be occupied. The Selangor government is considering relocating the victims to temporary homes starting next week. Additionally, 399 vehicles were affected, with 225 burnt and 174 damaged.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that owners of destroyed houses would receive RM5,000, while those with partially damaged homes would get RM2,500 each. Further aid measures will be discussed in the Cabinet’s weekly meeting next Wednesday.
Additionally, various forms of aid have been offered to the victims, including 200 cars for temporary use from automotive companies like Chery, GoCar, DRB-Hicom Bhd, Carro, and Carsome.
The digital ministry will provide 100 laptops, 100 smartphones, 100 tablets, and 500 power banks to victims who lost or damaged their devices.
