THE Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has left investigations into more than RM200 million in losses suffered by Bank Pertanian Malaysia Bhd, or Agrobank, following an online fraud case entirely in the hands of enforcement and regulatory authorities, its minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said on Thursday.

Mohamad said the matter falls fully under the jurisdiction of the Royal Malaysia Police and Bank Negara Malaysia, adding that the ministry would not interfere with ongoing investigations.

“We leave it 100 per cent to them to investigate, I cannot give further comment,” he said when met after officiating the Madani Agro Excellence Awards here.

His remarks followed confirmation by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail that Agrobank recorded losses amounting to RM203.8 million due to an online fraud case reported in November last year.

In a written parliamentary reply issued on Wednesday, Saifuddin said police had arrested 47 individuals in connection with the case, with three already charged under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code for offences related to the use of mule accounts.

Saifuddin did not disclose detailed information on the modus operandi of the fraud, but clarified that the incident did not involve any customer accounts held by the financial institution.

Investigations into the remaining 44 suspects are ongoing, with police finalising investigation papers with assistance from CyberSecurity Malaysia and Bank Negara, he said.

The case has drawn public attention due to the scale of losses incurred by Agrobank, a government-owned development financial institution that plays a key role in financing Malaysia’s agriculture and food security sectors. - February 6, 2026
