A house in Desa Jaya was set on fire on January 18 (Saturday), supposedly by an Ah Long claiming someone in the family owed them money.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng shared on X that he received a complaint about the incident at 4:55 PM, saying someone had set the parents’ house on fire because their child supposedly owed a debt.
Their son allegedly owed RM1.6k
China Press reported that during a press conference, the family revealed that their 27-year-old son was threatened with being “forced” to commit suicide if he failed to pay his SGD500 (approximately RM1,648) debt.
Even after the man was allegedly pushed to the point of taking his own life, the Ah Long didn’t stop harassing the family and even sent someone to the parents’ house to set it on fire.
Lip Eng wrote,
“I received a complaint that an Ah Long burned down the parents’ house in Desa Jaya, Kepong, even though their son had died after allegedly falling from a high floor of a hotel in Johor. 2 police reports have been made.”
Their son borrowed money for daily expenses
The dad shared that his son, who worked in Singapore, borrowed money from the Ah Long for daily expenses.
But on December 19, he suddenly started getting calls from several loan sharks demanding payment. The next day, a group of them even claimed his son would jump off a building soon.
“Then on the 21st, a coffin bearer suddenly told me my son had fallen from a height and passed away at Johor Bahru Hospital. That’s when I found out my son was gone,” he said.
