Just before Malaysian head to the polls for GE15, WhatsApp has finally rolled out its in-chat polling feature for Malaysians. You can use the new feature to create a poll for individual or group chats, with multiple options for users to choose from. The poll feature has been in testing since April and it was recently rolled out to everyone starting early this month.

It is now available on the latest version of WhatsApp for both iOS (2.22.21.77) and Android (2.22.23.77). To create a poll in a chat, just tap + on iOS or the paper clip icon for Android. You can add up to a total of 12 options and rearrange the order before you submit the poll.

Unlike Telegram, there aren’t many options for WhatsApp polls. By default, WhatsApp allows users to vote for multiple options and the results for each option are reflected instantly even to those who have not voted. You can also tap the poll to view voters for each option as well as the voting time. The poll results are not locked and WhatsApp allows users to change their vote at any time they want.

For the upcoming election, do note that you’ll have to visit your designated polling station. If you don’t know where and who you can vote for, you can check your voter registration details on MySPRSemak. Following the passing of the #Undi18 bill, all Malaysian adults aged 18 years old and above are automatically registered as voters.

GE15 is happening on Saturday, 19th November 2022 and all you’ll need to bring is your IC. If you don’t have your IC, the Election Commission is also accepting other forms of identification documents.
