A TikTok AI series is blowing up for its 80’s style sitcoms – the worst part is no one can tell it’s AI generated.
These sitcoms mimic the old-style family sitcoms with family banter and background laughters with the classic multi-camera shot angles.
Popular AI sitcom creator, agnightlive, are constantly posting episodes of these sitcoms every week like a TV show. Each ‘episode’ is not more than a minute long and some commenters say it’s better than the real TV shows they watch live.
These videos are sometimes captioned as ‘AI sitcoms are scary’ or ‘AI sitcoms are hilarious’ with some videos going as high as 600k views.
People used to criticize creators for their use of AI but now because of these sitcoms, users are now praising creators that posts AI sitcoms for their creativity and their humour.
One user wrote, “AI sitcoms are 10x better than the sitcoms made today.”
Some users requesting for comedy shows and other live shows to follow suit in AI generated content as well.
Not only creators are posting these ‘episodes’ on their page, but some creators posts tutorials on how to generate one yourself which gradually increases these AI shows on TikTok.
So, what’s the appeal? With people now and their shot attention span, many don’t make the effort to sit and watch an entire show anymore. But with short 30-second videos and its face-paced setting, many tune in to watch at the comfort from their phone. On the other hand, many critics pointed out its creepy uncanny valley effect.
Furthermore, because it’s free to generate, the budget for it is basically 0, which makes it rapid to produce and perfect for platforms like TikTok.
Yet, there always is a line between creativity and sloppy which is still a huge concern for the creative industry.
Despite wide concerns by many, the AI sitcom trend still continues.
