AI in checking the bar examinations

Dear PAO,

I saw a trending Facebook post that the Bar Examinations will be checked using AI. Is this true? Thank you.

Idris

Dear Idris,

The Supreme Court in In re: Social Media Posts of Edgar S. Dizon (B.M. No. 4734, July 15, 2026) addressed a substantially similar issue involving the dissemination of false information concerning the administration and checking of the Bar Examinations.

The case stemmed from social media posts, which claimed that the 2023 Bar Examinations would be “sorted, checked, and corrected by means of artificial intelligence (AI).” The posts subsequently went viral and caused alarm, panic, and anxiety among bar examinees who were then in the midst of their final preparations for the examinations.

As a consequence, the Office of the Bar Chairman was compelled to undertake measures to determine the origin and authorship of the posts and to assess their impact upon the Bar Examinations and its stakeholders.

In citing respondent for indirect contempt, the Supreme Court found that he had unlawfully interfered with the conduct and administration of the 2023 Bar Examinations, a court-sanctioned activity, by disseminating false and baseless information that engendered undue alarm, anxiety, and panic among the bar examinees. The Court further held that his irresponsible and unfounded representation that artificial intelligence would undertake the sorting and checking of the examination papers not only compromised and cast doubt upon the integrity and credibility of the Bar Examinations, but likewise undermined the authority and institutional integrity of the Supreme Court, which exercises overall supervision and control over the administration of the Bar Examinations.

The high court emphasized that, “the committee of bar examiners shall be composed of a justice of the Supreme Court, who shall act as chairperson, and such number of members of the bar of the Philippines in good standing, as may be determined by the bar chairperson.” They are all warm bodies; and contrary to Dizon’s post, they are not powered or guided by artificial intelligence.”

The Supreme Court further noted that respondent had passed the 2016 Bar Examinations but was unable to take his oath due to pending murder cases. In view of his conduct in relation to the 2023 Bar Examinations, the Court found his irresponsible and baseless dissemination of false information sufficiently serious as to warrant, among others, his delisting from the list of successful Bar examinees.

In light of the foregoing, there is no basis to conclude that the Bar Examinations are being checked through artificial intelligence (AI). The examinees and public should rely solely on official announcements and issuances of the Supreme Court for information concerning the administration, checking, and evaluation of the Bar Examinations.

We hope that we were able to answer your queries. This advice was solely based on the facts you have narrated and our appreciation of the same. Our opinion may vary when other facts are changed or elaborated.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.
