Elderly patients in Haryana will soon get major relief as artificial intelligence (AI) is set to play a key role in simplifying their dental treatment process, eliminating the need for repeated hospital visits.

Dr HK Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor of Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, stated this while addressing a two-day conference titled, “Dentures in a day” at Post Graduate Institutes of Dental Sciences (PGIDS) here on Monday. Around 150 doctors across the state are being trained in digital and AI-based dental techniques.

“Elderly citizens are the backbone of society and repeated hospital visits are often physically exhausting for them. With the advancement of technology, dental treatment is now becoming digital and AI-driven. The AI-based system being developed will become a model for the entire state,” he said.

Dr Aggarwal further said an AI chatbot had been developed which would communicate in Hindi and even call elderly patients to inform them about treatment schedules.

“The system will guide patients on when and how long they need to visit the hospital, reducing unnecessary visits. The benchmarking is being developed for wider implementation,” he added.

Dr Aggarwal said the PGIDS, Rohtak, was the only dental institution in Haryana providing complete dentures without any waiting list.

PGIDS Principal Dr Manu Rathee said the AI chatbot would also reduce the financial and physical burden on elderly patients by minimising repeated hospital visits.

“The system will provide updates such as report readiness and appointment scheduling, ensuring most treatment is completed in a single visit. The AI will also analyse patient satisfaction and treatment outcomes,” she added.

Dr Rathee also highlighted that the college created artificial eyes, noses, ears, and fingers under maxillofacial prosthesis, benefiting patients after cancer, black fungus, or accidents, with AI making these prosthetics more natural-looking.

Organising secretary Dr Pankaj Gehlot said that the government aimed at extending this facility to civil hospitals across districts. “Experts are being trained in digital scanning, denture insertion and AI-based follow-ups,” he added.
