SHAH ALAM, Aug 29 - The air quality across the country deteriorated today, with 28 areas recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings and one area reaching a very unhealthy level.
According to the Department of Environment (DOE)’s statement today, Sri Aman, Sarawak recorded the highest API reading at 221 as of 9am today.
Other areas recording unhealthy API readings included IPD Serian in Sarawak at 194, Sarikei (190), Kuching (169), Samarahan (168) and Mukah (165).
Sungai Petani, Kedah and Sibu, Sarawak both recorded an API reading of 161, followed by Minden and Cheras at 160 each.
Selangor remained with the same three areas affected by the worsening air quality with Shah Alam recorded an API reading of 154 as of 9am, followed by Johan Setia at 153 and Petaling Jaya at 133.
Other affected areas included Langkawi and Seberang Perai at 157, followed by Seberang Jaya (156), Kangar and Alor Setar (155).
Both Taiping and Batu Muda recorded an API reading of 155, followed by Tanjung Malim and Kapit at 154 API level each.
The API reading for Putrajaya was 153, Nilai (152), Tasek Ipoh (151), Bintulu (150), Segamat (142), Seremban (136), and Seri Manjung (110).
The department also reported that 39 areas recorded moderate air quality.
