KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 - At 9am, air quality in 11 areas across the country is above the “unhealthy” threshold, including Johan Setia and Shah Alam.
API readings from 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.
Sarawak has been the worst-hit state so far.
According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Samarahan registered the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 183, followed by Serian (182), Kuching (176), Sarikei and Sri Aman (158), and Mukah and Sibu (152).
In Peninsular Malaysia, four areas posted unhealthy readings: Johan Setia (154) and Shah Alam (101) in Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur (131) and Putrajaya (104).
Meanwhile, 55 areas recorded moderate API readings of between 51 and 100, while two other areas registered good air quality below 50.
The API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
