TAWAU: A 55-year-old Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) air traffic controller was killed after losing control of his motorcycle on an uneven road surface before being struck by a sedan at Mile 3, Jalan Apas on Wednesday evening.
District police chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the victim died at the scene around 6 pm after sustaining severe head injuries, which were later confirmed by Tawau Hospital medical personnel.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim’s Yamaha RXZ motorcycle suddenly lost balance after crossing an uneven road section where the right lane had been freshly resurfaced higher than the unpaved left lane.
The victim subsequently fell in front of an oncoming Toyota Camry driven by a 28-year-old man, who was unable to stop in time due to the close distance and trapped the motorcyclist underneath the vehicle.
Police have opened an investigation into the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and are calling on witnesses to contact investigating officer Inspector Joseph Jelian at 016-8067272 or any nearby police station.
