AirAsia has rolled out airasia pocket, its new e-wallet that allows users to make payments for various products and services within its ecosystem while being rewarded at the same time, including flight bookings and airasia food orders. This e-wallet can be used on its super app, website and at selected Santan outlets.

According to AirAsia’s website, airasia pocket users will be able to earn airasia points for each transaction made, on top of an additional 50 airasia points upon activating the e-wallet. They will also get to enjoy 10% off all AirAsia flight bookings, as well as 10x points with every airasia food order on weekends.

Housed within airasia Super App, airasia pocket has two account tiers: Lite and Pro. As you can expect, the Lite tier offers a lower limit for its various transactions and lesser functionalities as compared to the Pro tier. Here are the full details on the two tiers:

Note that airasia pocket can only be reloaded via online banking (FPX), with more options likely to be added in the future. Additionally, it currently accepts only the Malaysian Ringgit as it can only be used within Malaysia for now. AirAsia is, however, planning to expand this e-wallet to Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines in the near future. The airasia pocket e-wallet is also currently limited to selected AirAsia products and services. For instance, it is available as a payment option for AirAsia (AK) flights but not for AirAsia X flights.

If you’d like to give airasia pocket a try, you will need to first activate it by tapping on the wallet icon in the super app. On the activation page, key in your mobile number, and verify it with a one-time password (OTP) sent to your number. You’ll then need to input your personal details to complete the activation. Meanwhile, those who want to upgrade their accounts from the Lite tier to the Pro tier will need to take the extra step of completing the e-KYC verification process.

In its statement, AirAsia also shared that airasia pocket is developed with Fass Payment Solutions Sdn Bhd (Fasspay), a white-label e-wallet player and an e-money provider licensed by Bank Negara Malaysia.

“As fintech and neobanks continue to reshape the financial landscape in Malaysia and across ASEAN, airasia Super App is continuing to be an industry disruptor and expand its fintech services by launching airasia pocket, which enables our app users to make payment for all products and services faster within the Super App ecosystem. This includes payments for flights and hotel bookings, as well as on airasia food, airasia grocer, airasia xpress, or when booking a ride through airasia ride,” said the chief fintech officer of airasia Super App, Mohamad Hafidz Mohd Fadzil.

Finally, AirAsia highlighted that the new airasia pocket is a different instrument as compared to its other e-wallet, BigPay. While BigPay can be used for any general transactions at payment terminals that accept card-based transactions, airasia pocket is intended specifically for payments of services or products within its ecosystem.
