AirAsia X Berhad has officially been renamed AirAsia Group Berhad, marking the completion of a corporate restructuring that the airline says will better reflect its ambitions of becoming the world’s first low-cost network carrier.
The name change follows shareholder approval at the company’s 19th Annual General Meeting on 25 June 2026, with the new name taking effect on 2 July 2026 after being registered by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM).
According to the airline, the rebranding is more than just a name change. AirAsia Group Berhad will serve as the umbrella for a more integrated airline business, bringing together its operations to strengthen connectivity, improve operational efficiency and expand its network across Asia and beyond.
“The approval of name change by our shareholders reflects their confidence in our vision and the strategic direction we are taking as a unified airline group. This important step represents more than a corporate exercise.
It marks a defining milestone in our ambition to become the world’s first low-cost network carrier, leveraging the synergies and full potential of our short- and medium-haul network.
By bringing our airlines together under AirAsia Group, we are better positioned to enhance connectivity, deliver more seamless journeys and create greater value for our guests across the region and beyond,” – Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim AirAsia Group Berhad Independent Non-Executive Chairman
Jamaludin added that the enlarged group will benefit from a larger fleet, a broader route network and stronger connectivity, placing it in a better position to capitalise on growing travel demand across Asia and ASEAN. He added that the company remains focused on disciplined execution, sustainable long-term growth and making air travel more accessible while maintaining strong corporate governance.

The renaming follows AirAsia’s ongoing efforts to streamline its airline business after the proposed consolidation of AirAsia Aviation Group and AirAsia X. Once fully integrated, the group aims to operate as a unified low-cost airline network spanning short-, medium- and long-haul routes, enabling passengers to connect more seamlessly across its destinations while retaining its budget-friendly fares.
For passengers, the corporate name change does not immediately affect existing AirAsia branding, flight bookings or services. The familiar AirAsia brand will continue to be used for its airline operations, while the new AirAsia Group Berhad name reflects the listed company’s broader corporate identity and long-term strategic direction.
