KUCHING — AirBorneo Airways Sdn Bhd has joined the government-backed FLYsiswa initiative, allowing eligible Malaysian students to use a RM400 digital voucher to offset the cost of domestic economy-class flights.
In a statement on August 11, the airline said the initiative, led by the Transport Ministry, is intended to reduce the financial burden faced by students travelling between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, particularly during semester breaks, festive periods and emergencies.
AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian Aminuddin said the cost of air travel should not prevent students from returning home to spend time with their families.
“Education requires focus, dedication, and peace of mind. For many young Malaysians studying away from home, particularly between Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo, the cost of flight tickets should never be an obstacle to spending quality time with family,” he said.
He said the airline's participation in FLYsiswa reflected its commitment to supporting students and their families by making travel more affordable.
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of students on board our flights, ensuring they enjoy seamless, reliable and affordable travel home,” he said.
The FLYsiswa programme is available to eligible Malaysian students enrolled at public universities, polytechnics, community colleges, matriculation colleges and teacher education institutes.
Students can verify their eligibility through the Transport Ministry's FLYsiswa portal before redeeming the RM400 digital voucher when booking flights through AirBorneo's website or mobile application.
For AirBorneo flights, voucher redemption is available from August 11 until November 30, while eligible bookings can be made for travel up to December 31.
The airline is also offering additional baggage allowances as well as complimentary or discounted date changes for FLYsiswa bookings, subject to its terms and conditions.
AirBorneo said its route network would provide students with direct connections to key destinations and regional hubs across Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.
