KUALA LUMPUR — AI Malaysia Berhad has appointed its inaugural Board of Directors as the government seeks to strengthen the institutional framework supporting the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the appointment marked a significant milestone in establishing a stronger foundation for Malaysia’s national AI agenda.
“This appointment follows the launch of AI Malaysia Berhad by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 28 July 2026,” he said in a statement today.
As the Ministry of Digital’s lead agency for AI, Gobind said AI Malaysia would be responsible for coordinating national AI initiatives, encouraging safe and responsible AI adoption, and driving the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 towards the goal of becoming an AI Nation by 2030.
Aireen Omar has been appointed as chairperson, with the board comprising Ministry of Digital secretary-general Datuk Fabian Bigar, Deputy Secretary-General (Digital Development) Ma Sivanesan a/l Marimuthu, Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Chief Digital Technology Officer Muhammad Afhzal Abdul Rahman and Trendcell Sdn Bhd chairperson Foo Yen Ling Adelene.
Gobind said the board brought together expertise from both the public and private sectors, covering areas such as national transformation, public policy, digital economy development, investment and AI innovation.
“The establishment of AI Malaysia provides the nation with a dedicated institution to lead and coordinate its AI agenda,” he added.
He said the board would provide strategic direction, ensure effective governance and offer diverse perspectives from across government and industry to support AI Malaysia’s mandate.
Gobind said Aireen’s more than two decades of experience in business transformation, technology and regional growth would be valuable to the organisation, while other board members brought expertise in public-sector leadership, digital transformation, technology, entrepreneurship and business innovation.
“Further appointments will be made in due course,” he said.
Gobind said the formation of the board would strengthen AI Malaysia’s institutional capacity and governance as the organisation works to translate the country’s AI strategies into coordinated implementation and tangible outcomes.
He added that these efforts would be guided by accountability and Malaysia’s long-term national interests. — September 11, 2026
