Kota Kinabalu: Sabahan students of higher learning institutions in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Labuan can now register for the Sabah Government’s RM600 airfare subsidy.

A statement from the Deputy State Secretary’s office on Facebook, Thursday, said registration was unavailable for recipients of the Sabah Foundation, Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) and Sabah Government scholarships.

Earlier, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said the subsidy assistance would be wired directly to the students’ account beginning this week.

For non-recipients of scholarships, he said payment would be coordinated by the Special Tasks Office (PTTK) after confirmation from the university or college concerned.

“This means if Muis sponsors the student, payment will be paid directly to the student by the council, and if he gets a state government scholarship, the payment will be channelled by the State Government.

“If the student is sponsored by the Sabah Foundation, the allocation channelled through the Chief Minister’s Department will be adjusted by the foundation before payments are made to the respective students’ accounts,” said Mohd Ariffin.

The special assistance can be used anytime students return to Sabah.
