The mortal remains of Gursewak Singh, a youngster from Wanjha Wala village in Ajnala who drowned in Slovakia, were brought back to his native village on Saturday, where he was laid to rest amid an atmosphere of grief and mourning.
A large number of villagers, relatives and well-wishers gathered to pay their final respects to the deceased youngster. The bereaved family was inconsolable as they bid an emotional farewell to their son, who had travelled to Slovakia on a work permit about eight months ago in search of better employment opportunities. Following the tragic incident abroad, the family had appealed to the Indian Government and public representatives for help in bringing his mortal remains back home.
Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla had taken up the matter with the ministries and officials concerned.
Aujla said the untimely death of a young man was an irreparable loss not only for the family, but also society.
He said the entire village was engulfed in grief as the mortal remains arrived.
The MP noted that many Punjabi youngsters went abroad in hopes of securing a better future, and such unfortunate incidents left the entire state saddened. He offered prayers for the departed soul, and extended his condolences to the family, assuring them of all possible support in future.
