It's been 22 months since his demise on 08 July, 2023 and the legacy of Allahyarham Dato' Pahamin Ab Rejab (fondly known as Pedro) is much going strong. His name was brought up again when Dato' Azaman Abu Bakar, Deputy Chairman of Muda Holdings Berhad, visited Allahyarham's pusara (grave) in London. Pedro was a close family friend of Azaman, that begun from their university days in the mid 1960s. (www.nst.com.my >nation>2023/07)
Azaman who is in London to visit friends and relatives revealed, “Pedro's wife is very close to my wife and they met regularly when we men are always busy with endless work. I recall, Pedro was a true professional but colourful character … even dresses in his own colourful way.” I remember Azaman began his carrer as a marketing executive in Harper Gilfilan before joining the Urban Development Authority (UDA) in 1974. His last position in UDA was the Director of property management. He was awarded the AIM Triple A Award for outstanding alumni. (www.muda.com.my>our-company<)
As former Head, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Academy & Triple A Awardee, I've known Pedro, who was the co-founder of AirAsia, had served in ministeries and government agencies for over 30 years. He was the non-executive chairman of Air Asia Berhad for seven good years from 2001-2008. He served as President, Kelab AIM Malaysia and brought me to sit in the Board of Management. He passed away from a heart attack while on a flight to London from Kuala Lumpur after successfully performed umrah pilgrimage in the holy land of Makkah & Madinah.
Both Pedro & Azaman successes in the government agencies and corporate sector is not by chance but by choice - developing and applying uncommon insights and skills that are within reach of us all. There's another lasting lesson that I learned from them: Flawless Execution isn't literally about perfection; it's about unlocking far more of the untapped best inside me in winning the challenging battles of business.
