Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate 2006, Bangladeshi economist, micro-finance pioneer and founder of the grassroots Grameen Bank said that “We are all entrepreneurs in the changing world, one micro-loan at a time. I propose to create new roads to go to a new destination by creating a World of 3 Zeros, consisting of zero net carbon emission, zero wealth concentration for ending poverty once and for all, and zero unemployment by unleashing entrepreneurship in everyone, especially the young people.”
The idea behind his multi-award-winning idea of microcredit is that everyone is a natural entrepreneur. Professor Yunus who engaged in a public discussion for the Campus With A Conscience (CWAC) Series held at the Sunway University in Petaling Jaya, reiterated that “We tend to think entrepreneurs are those who succeed in the globalised financial system that is rapidly reestablishing the extreme inequalities that some governments legislated to limit in the 21st century. Young people who are go-getters have to know about it. They should learn that there are two kinds of businesses in the world. One is a business which makes money, and the other solves the problem of the world. So this is our real tradition.”

Professor Yunus was born on June 28, 1940 in the village of Bathua, Chittagong, Bangladesh. He pursued higher education at Dhaka University and in 1966 received the Fulbright scholarship to study economics at Vanderbilt University, USA, where he received his PhD in 1970. Driven by his personal belief and philanthropic desire to eradicate poverty, he established Grameen Bank in Bangladesh in 1983. He helped financially deprived people who were non-traditional borrowers by providing loans on suitable terms & guiding them.
Fostering entrepreneurship is the solution. And this concept of social business created for pro-social goals, not profit - is the solution to social and environmental problems caused by intense capitalist competition. It is heartening to observe that some pioneering companies are already embracing it under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
