All-New North American Chevrolet Colorado Debuts

The Chevrolet Colorado may be gone from Malaysia, but it has been renewed elsewhere.

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado has been unveiled and this time the mid-sized pick-up truck comes with an all-new chassis to do battle against the renewed Ford Ranger, just not in Malaysia.

The new Colorado is built on three pillars: elevated design, enhanced performance and useful technology. All variants get a shared wheelbase that is nearly 8cm longer than the preceding model. Variants include Work Truck (WT), LT, Z71, ZR2 and Trail Boss with three chassis stances.

The standard stance is for WT, LT and Z71 trims. There’s a 2″ lifted, ultra-wide stance for the Trail Boss variant and a 3″ lifted, with Multimatic DSSV dampers and a wide stance for the ZR2 model.

There’s a new design too, which is said to combine refinement and functionality with durability and comfort. The interior comes with a customisable 11.3″ infotainment system and a 8″ digital instrument cluster, wrapped and stitched knee pads on the doors and centre console, as well as off-road accessories.

Powering the latest Chevrolet Colorado is a new 2.7-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 18% more horsepower and 36% more torque than the outgoing base engine. There’s also a higher powered version of the 2.7-litre engine available that has more power than the higher-tier 3.6L and 2.8L turbo diesel engines. This new engine has a more rigid cylinder block casting with a 30% stiffer crankshaft, a fully forged bottom end and much tougher materials – the kinds used in diesel engines.

There’s a new 8-speed automatic transmission to go with the new engine. It shifts smoother and quicker than before and excels at low-speed and off-roading scenarios. There are five selectable drive modes: Normal, Tow/Haul, Off-Road, Terrain, and Baja.
