All four temporary relief centres in Penampang were closed after floodwaters fully receded at 8 pm, allowing all victims to return home, says Sabah JPBN.

KOTA KINABALU: All four temporary relief centres in the Penampang district near here were closed after floodwaters in the affected areas fully receded at 8 pm tonight.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said this development allowed all victims at the relief centres to return home.

“No casualties or fatalities were reported during the disaster in the district.

“All relief centres in Penampang have officially closed, and all affected locations have fully recovered,” Sabah JPBN said in a statement tonight.

The closed relief centres were Penampang Sports Complex, Dewan Huguan Siou, Sekolah Kebangsaan St Paul Kolopis, and St Michael Parish Hall. A total of 118 victims from 41 families were evacuated there this morning.

Penampang District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) chairman Noemi Dyena John Tren declared a disaster at 10.40 pm yesterday, allowing the four relief centres to open following continuous heavy rain.

The water level of Sungai Moyog exceeded the danger mark of 9.12 metres. The overflowing river affected 15 villages and flooded 12 roads in the district.

Sabah JPBN said one relief centre in Kota Kinabalu district, Dewan Masyarakat Manggatal, remains open and is still registering victims as of tonight.
