All victims in Swiss bar fire identified

GENEVA, Jan 5 - The Swiss police have confirmed the identities of all 40 victims killed in a bar fire in the resort town of Crans-Montana in Switzerland's Valais Canton.

Xinhua reported the Valais district police as saying that the 40 victims, aged 14 to 39, included 21 Swiss, seven French, five Italian, and one each from Belgium, Portugal, Romania, and Turkiye. Among them were one dual Swiss-French national, one with French, Israeli and British citizenship, and one dual Italian-United Arab Emirates national.

Many of the victims were minors.

According to the police, a criminal investigation has been initiated against the two managers of the "Le Constellation" bar on suspicion of negligent homicide, negligent bodily injury, and negligent arson.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin told the local media on Sunday that Switzerland will hold a national day of mourning on Friday.
