THE 47-year-old suspect arrived at the court complex in a police truck while handcuffed and escorted under tight security by police personnel.
He was seen wearing a T-shirt and denim shorts as officers accompanied him into the courthouse for proceedings connected to charges under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah previously confirmed that the suspect had been arrested in connection with ongoing investigations into drug distribution activities in the resort island district.
Authorities believe the man acted as a close associate and trusted lieutenant of a police officer identified only as “Mr A”, who is alleged to have masterminded a sophisticated drug trafficking operation across Langkawi.
Earlier reports revealed that the syndicate resurfaced several years after the death of notorious Langkawi drug figure “Mat Nahar”, who had once been dubbed the “Pablo Escobar of Langkawi”.
Investigations indicated that several members of the current network were also previously linked to Mat Nahar’s narcotics operations before reorganising under the alleged leadership of “Mr A”.
The case has drawn widespread attention following allegations that the syndicate operated in a structured and coordinated manner throughout the Langkawi archipelago while allegedly involving individuals with law enforcement connections. - May 21, 2026
