Alliance Select, Century Pacific halt General Santos operations

LISTED Alliance Select Foods International Inc. and Century Pacific Food Inc. on Tuesday announced the temporary suspension of operations in General Santos City following Monday’s 7.8-magnitude quake.

Alliance Select said it activated emergency response procedures immediately after the June 8 earthquake and evacuated personnel to designated safe areas, with some having required medical attention.

As a precautionary measure and amid continuing aftershocks, the company said it had halted operations while engineers and safety personnel conducted inspections and assessed the extent of the damage.

Preliminary findings showed damage to warehouse structures as well as inventory stored within the affected facilities and Alliance Select a more comprehensive review was underway.

"Based on current assessments, management expects operations to resume on or about June 16, 2026, subject to the completion of safety inspections and any necessary remediation measures," the company said.

Century Pacific, meanwhile, confirmed casualties and said its priority was the safety of employees and nearby communities.

“As of today, three civilian casualties have been confirmed. We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident and are extending support to the affected families,” it said.

Century Pacific said it was also assessing the full extent of the damage to its facilities and expected to resume operations within one to two weeks, subject to structural evaluations and clearance from relevant authorities.

The company added that its facilities were covered by insurance, while partner retailers maintain sufficient inventory levels to meet near-term demand, helping cushion any immediate supply disruptions.

From a business continuity standpoint, Century Pacific said it does not expect significant short-term supply shortages despite the temporary suspension.

Century Pacific shares on Tuesday rose by P0.70, or 2.63, percent, to close at P27.30 each, while those of Alliance Select were untraded on Tuesday. The stock last closed at P0.34 each on Monday.
