- A 31-year-old woman from Orlando was fatally attacked by an alligator while wading in the Econlockhatchee River in Florida's Seminole County on Sunday afternoon.
- The woman was with her boyfriend and best friend in approximately three feet of water when the attack occurred, with a frantic 911 caller reporting severe injuries, including dislocated or severed arms.
- Her boyfriend attempted to free her from the alligator's grasp, but she later died en route to the hospital.
- Following the incident, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials killed two alligators, measuring 12 and 13 feet, in the vicinity, and are conducting DNA analysis to identify the animal responsible.
- Authorities highlighted that alligators are common in all Florida waters, and while serious injuries are rare, they warned of increased territorial behaviour during the end of mating season and due to low water levels, noting other recent attacks in the state.
