
TAWAU: The State Government should allocate sufficient amount in the State Budget for disaster management instead of solely relying on Federal Government allocations during disasters like floods.
Semporna Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said floods, fires and landslides are not only occurring now but may happen in the future.
Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});He said early preparation is very important than acting only after disasters occur, especially in districts frequently hit by flood disasters such as Kota Marudu, Pitas, Kimanis, Beaufort, Lahad Datu and Kalabakan.
He also hoped the State Government would properly manage the RM25 million allocation announced by the Prime Minister for flood victims in Sabah and Sarawak.

Shafie also said the 17th State Election is important for Sabah’s future and her people, particularly the State’s development landscape.

“(Then) there were people (assemblyman) of ours who were bought over, affecting political stability and hampering efforts to develop Sabah,” he said.

“We want to ensure the government can strengthen the education sector for Sabah’s children and we also want to ensure we can realise the proposed construction of a generic medicine manufacturing plant in this State, specially to help communities with limited financial means,” he said.
He said they are also planning the development of a seafood industry centre in Tawau to boost the local economy.
