SANDAKAN: The Masjid Jamek Nurul Hidayah in Kampung Sibugal and Masjid An-Nur in Kampung Sentosa, Jalan Sungai Batang have received allocations to upgrade facilities to enhance the congregation’s comfort.

Umno Sabah Information Chief and Libaran MP, Datuk Suhaimi Nasir said that Jamek Nurul Hidayah Mosque received funding under the Projek Mesra Rakyat (PMR) for carpet replacement and painting work, which was fully completed in 2024.

Meanwhile, Masjid An-Nur in Kampung Sentosa received approval through PMR for expanding the men’s prayer area and replacing the carpet in the main prayer hall, which is scheduled to be carried out this year.

“Upgrades like the installation of new carpets are essential to ensure the congregation’s comfort during their prayers,” he said when attending the 2025 Ramadan Tour Programme at three mosques: Masjid Jamek Nurul Hidayah in Kampung Sibugal, Masjid An-Nur in Kampung Sentosa and Masjid Jamek Nurul Iman in Kampung Padas.

In his speech, Suhaimi said expanding the prayer area at Masjid An-Nur is necessary due to the increasing number of congregants, ensuring they can perform their prayers comfortably.

Additionally, he said the project to upgrade the gravel road to concrete in the Padas Polling District Centre (PDM) area was fully completed in 2024 through PMR funding.

Suhaimi also announced that the drainage system in Kampung Gum-Gum would be upgraded to ensure a smoother and more organised water flow.

He believes the upgraded drainage system will help reduce the risk of flooding, as the area frequently experiences flash floods during heavy rain.

Commenting on the programme, the Umno Libaran Division Chief expressed gratitude for being able to reach out to the asnaf (those eligible for zakat), the elderly and people with disabilities (OKU) while also distributing zakat contributions to them at the three mosques visited.
