BELURAN: Bersatu Vice President cum Beluran Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr. Ronald Kiandee, welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement to recognise the Public Works Department (JKR) of Sabah and Sarawak as a Technical Departments, and subsequently be given the authority to manage projects at a rate of up to RM50 million.
However, Ronald said it should be emphasised that this rate would only enable Sabah and Sarawak to implement certain projects that were not large in scale, in line with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the recognition of JKR Sabah and Sarawak as Technical Departments.
It was appropriate if this rate were to be increased to a higher level so that Sabah and Sarawak had autonomy in implementing larger and high-impact development projects.
