Allow manual PADU registration for rural Sarawak folk, urges state PKR

SARAWAK Parti Keadilan Rakyat has urged Putrajaya to allow the one million plus rural Sarawakians who are still without mobile phone coverage to manually register for the PADU central data hub.

The party will deploy mobile "flying squads" into all rural districts to help in this physical manual registration exercise if Putrajaya allows the manual method, said Sarawak PKR chairman Roland Engan.

"We in Sarawak PKR are ready to deploy our flying squads into the rural locations to help with the PADU exercise.

"The Federal Government should allow special provision for Sarawak where #remote communities living in rural regions without handphone coverage be allowed to use register manually.

"In the meantime, we will send in our members to carry out awareness campaigns to educate the rural folks on what PADU is all about," he told reporters here after chairing a meeting with branch representatives in Miri.

Registration for PADU is rolling out more swiftly now in Sarawak, after a very slow start since it was launched on Jan 2 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

On Jan 12, the Digital Economy Centre (PEDi) located in numerous districts in Sarawak and operated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission joined in to help with the PADU registration.

PEDi will serve as a venue to help local folks with no telecommunication devices register with the PADU central data hub. - The Vibes, January 15, 2024
