  • A survey of 900 German pilots revealed that 93 per cent admitted to napping during flights in recent months.
  • The Vereinigung Cockpit Association (VC) survey indicated that for three out of four pilots, napping is now a standard practice during flights.
  • These naps are defined as controlled rest periods taken during the cruise phase, not during take-off or landing.
  • The VC attributes this widespread napping to structural overload, tight schedules, staff shortages, and increasing operational pressure on pilots.
  • The trade union has urged airlines to address pilot fatigue more seriously, warning that permanently exhausted cockpit crew poses a significant safety risk.
