Alt-rock band Sleep Alley disbands after passing of lead singer Aly Pagaduan

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino alternative rock band Sleep Alley has announced its disbandment following the death of lead vocalist Aly Pagaduan.

The announcement was made through the band's official social media pages, where members Jude, Kyle and Michael confirmed Pagaduan's passing. The band said it had decided to bring its nearly nine-year journey to a close in honor of Pagaduan, whose voice, creativity and artistry helped shape Sleep Alley's identity and forge a deep connection with listeners.

The group described Pagaduan as “more than a member of Sleep Alley,” calling her “a part of the heart and soul of this band.”

“Through her music, passion, creativity, and friendship, she touched not only our lives but also the lives of everyone who listened to our songs and supported our journey,” the statement read.

In their statement, the members said Pagaduan's legacy would endure through the songs she helped create.

“We will forever cherish the music she shared with us, the memories we created together, and the moments that shaped Sleep Alley into what it became,” they said.

“Her voice, spirit, and artistry will continue to live on through the songs we made and the people she inspired along the way.”

The remaining members also revealed that they had decided to formally end the band in her honor.

“In honor of Aly and everything she brought to Sleep Alley, we have decided to close this chapter of the band. We leave this as part of her legacy. A reflection of the music, memories, and journey we shared together," they said.

The group thanked fans who attended their shows, listened to their music and supported them throughout the years.

“To everyone who supported Sleep Alley throughout the years, attended our shows, listened to our music, shared our work, and believed in us, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your support meant the world to us, and we are deeply grateful that you were part of this journey with Aly," the statement said.

The band concluded its message by asking supporters to keep Pagaduan's family and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers, expressing hope that her memory would continue to live on whenever Sleep Alley's music is played.

Founded in Makati in 2017, Sleep Alley became known in the local independent music scene for blending elements of late 1990s and early 2000s alternative rock, grunge and pop-punk with deeply personal Filipino lyrics centered on love, heartbreak and self-reflection.

The band's biggest breakthrough came with “Di Naging (Tayo),” a song that became its most recognizable hit and earned a loyal following among listeners.

The track was part of the group's 2019 debut concept album, Sino Nagsabing Takot Ako Sa Dilim, which helped establish Sleep Alley as one of the emerging names in the country's alternative music community.

The band later released additional singles and its 2024 EP, Idlip, continuing to build its presence among fans of independent Filipino music.

No further details regarding the circumstances of Pagaduan's death were disclosed.
