MANILA, Philippines — Former actor Alvin Aragon weighed in on the controversy surrounding remarks made by Quezon City Rep. Bong Suntay about actress-host Anne Curtis, sharing a message about modesty and the Biblical concept of the “sin of lust.”
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Aragon said that even if a woman is not being directly looked at with desire, certain clothing choices could trigger temptation.
“Kahit hindi si Anne ang tinitignan mo ng may pagnanasa may mag iinit sa loob mo, Lalo na kapag nakalabas pa ang cleavage mo at legs (Even if you are not looking at Anne with desire, something inside you may still be stirred, especially if cleavage or legs are exposed)," Aragon wrote.
He urged Filipino men to protect their wives and emphasized reliance on faith to overcome what he described as moral struggles.
“Kaya Filipino men protect your wife may 'Sin of lust' kasi. and Filipino women dress modestly to avoid sexual desire. 'Kasi nga may Sin of lust' Alam nyo mahirap talaga yan iwasan si Jesus lang ang makakatulong sayo ma overcome yan. (That is why Filipino men should protect their wives because there is a ‘sin of lust.’ Filipino women should dress modestly to avoid sexual desire. Because there is a ‘sin of lust.’ You know it is really difficult to avoid that — only Jesus can help you overcome)," Aragon added.
He also quoted a Biblical passage, saying, “If your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It's better to enter eternal life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell... #FearGod.”
The controversy originated from remarks attributed to Bong Suntay during a House hearing that mentioned Anne Curtis and sparked backlash from her family and management.
Aragon, on the other hand, has previously faced criticism over his views on women’s clothing and entertainment performances, including comments involving members of the SexBomb Girls. The backlash intensified after interviews regarding reunion concerts, where he questioned how husbands could allow their wives to wear revealing costumes.
His earlier remarks had drawn responses from performers including Sunshine Garcia and Jopay Paguia.
As of posting, Curtis has not directly responded to Suntay's comments.
