A viral dashcam footage has recently surfaced online where it showed the terrifying moment an ambulance plowed into several motorists at a traffic light in Setapak.

Following the crash, a total of eight people were injured, including a nine-year-old girl who was riding pillion on a motorcycle.

Ambulance collides with car & motorists

According to BuletinTV3, the accident took place at about 8.10am on Monday (Dec 22) at the Jalan Usahawan 6 traffic light intersection.

KL Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said initial findings revealed that a a car travelling straight from Wangsa Maju had entered the intersection on a green light.

At the same moment, a Malaysian Red Crescent Society (PBSM) ambulance entered the intersection after beating the red light and crashed into the car before ramming straight into a group of motorists.

Mohd Zamzuri confirmed that the ambulance’s siren and emergency lights were on prior to the crash.

However, he added the ambulance was required to slow down when approaching and entering an intersection.

8 people injured

A total of eight individuals were injured, which included the ambulance driver and passenger, four male motorcyclists, a 9-year-old girl, and a 40-year-old male motorcyclist.

The male motorcyclist sustained a fractured right thigh while the young girl had cuts and bruises. All of the victims were treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Mohd Zamzuri said no patients were onboard the ambulance at the time and that it was en route to pick up a patient at PPR Gombak Setia.

Authorities are now investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
