Despite its absence in the CES 2026 keynote, AMD’s long-rumored dual 3D V-Cache processor is now official with a special name – Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition. The chipmaker published a video announcement for this new processor’s launch, marketing it as an option between gaming systems and high-end workstations.

Simply put, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 has three differences when compared against the current flagship, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D: first, the 9950X3D2 features 3D V-Cache on both of its 8-core Core Complex Dies (CCDs), which offers a combined 192MB of L3 cache (with 96MB for each CCD). Do note that AMD’s claimed figures of 208MB cache includes its L2 cache as well, in this case 8MB per CCD, and 16MB combined.

Secondly, the 9950X3D2 comes with extra power headroom, now with 200W TDP available by default as opposed to 9950X3D’s 170W TDP, so expect minor boosts in multi-core performance even in workloads that do not necessarily benefit from the extra cache provided. Finally, there seems to be a minor tradeoff with this dual 3D V-Cache design, as the processor’s max boost clock is reduced ever-so-slightly to 5.6GHz, which is 100MHz less from the 9950X3D.

In most cases, the 9950X3D2 is not expected to bring more performance to games as these generally are already contained within a single CCD for latency reasons, so its dual 3D V-Cache design won’t change that. For content creation or compute-heavy workloads that demands plenty of quickly accessible data, this is where the 9950X3D2 will shine – AMD claims that the new chip will be 5-10% faster in such cases.

AMD says the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition will be available globally starting 22 April 2026, though pricing is not yet announced at this time; we expect it’ll come close to $749 in the US (9950X3D was $699 at launch), and for local markets, we could be looking at close to RM4,000 launch pricing (9950X3D’s local MSRP is RM3,499). When it hits the store shelves, be sure to look for gray-colored boxes with special branding on it.
