We’re fresh off the announcement from Intel’s new desktop processors, and it looks like AMD already have answers for it. Per leaker ‘chi11eddog‘ on X (Twitter), AMD is preparing two new models in the form of 8-core Ryzen 7 9750X and 6-core Ryzen 5 9650X to fend off competition from Team Blue.
New CPUs Spotted: Ryzen 7 9750X & Ryzen 5 9650X

The leaker’s information on the two new chips have some common themes – namely, these are 120W models that is expected to slot above the “base model”, in this case Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X, which sticks to the 65W TDP target by default (although later AGESA updates have raised that limit to 105W due to popular demand). As a result, both chips is believed to get a +400MHz base clock increase, while binning improvements also gave them a +100MHz uplift in boost clocks over their base counterparts.
All in all, we believe both the 9750X and 9650X will serve as mid-cycle refreshes for the 9700X and 9600X respectively, not necessarily competing the role of high-performance gaming that the likes of Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 9850X3D currently occupies. Given that Intel specifically targeted both of their new Plus series processors for value, it’s likely that AMD came up with both models as some kind of response, if not at least take away some of the news cycle from Intel’s surprisingly solid refresh it has brought to the table.
It has to be said that AMD hasn’t publicly mentioned both models at this point, given that this is still a leak (although with a decent track record); still, we imagine that if Team Red decides to stick along with its plans, there’s a good chance we might see them in action in the next month or two, or potentially on the Computex show floor as well.
Pokdepinion: I do think Intel has the mid-range market in the bag right now with how much the new Core Ultra 5 250K Plus offers.
