Ever since the return of AMD to the mainstream PC enthusiast scene, they’ve been heralded as one of the best in the industry when it comes to supporting their products for the long term; just take a look at how AM4 is still thriving. It seems that AMD is set to take the same approach with their graphics division too, as they are now promising to bring FSR 4.1 to older GPUs.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, AMD senior vice president of computing and graphics Jack Huynh has confirmed that the next FSR 4 update, FSR 4.1, will be coming to the last generation Radeon 7000 series graphics cards. In fact, it won’t just be Radeon 7000 series getting the new FSR 4.1 update, as AMD is also planning to bring FSR 4.1 to Radeon 6000 GPUs too by early 2027.

FSR 4 originally launched to just newer Radeon 9000 series cards, which cause a lot of gamers to be upset as GPUs don’t typically go out of date in just a generation. FSR 4 basically is an AI upscaling method that boosts frame rates while mainly reducing image smearing and improving image quality. FSR 4.1 improved this upscaling with sharper details and faster performance.

It’s nice to see that AMD has not forgotten about its RDNA 3 and RDNA 2 users, even if it took awhile for them to bring the latest upscaling technologies down the stack. And while there’s no assurance that the performance will be as good as Radeon 9000 cards, it’s at least some promising news for PC gamers on AMD.
