Newcastle United hero Shola Ameobi knows what it takes to play in the Champions League with the club.
Ameobi, now the team's loan manager, played in the European Cup under legendary boss Sir Bobby Robson.
He was in the team that beat Juventus 1-0 and he even scored against Bayer Leverkusen away from home, over 20 years ago.
Per Chronicle Live, Ameobi said: "It's going to be tough being in the Champions League again. But our home crowd - to see that energy - there won't be one team when they play in that, to not feel nervous. That's going to be a huge part of the advantage we have this season. Certainly in the Champions League."
Asked to compare current boss Eddie Howe to the late Robson, the former striker said: "Sir Bobby Robson was notorious for bringing young players to the club and developing them through the Academy system. You look at Eddie Howe has looked at young players to coach. There's never been a better time for a young player to be at the club since Sir Bobby's time.
"Eddie wants to engage with the younger players and he gives them opportunities every single day. I think young players trained 320 times or so with the first-team last year, that's a heck of a lot of time to train with the manager, he wants that time with the Academy.
"If you do well, like Elliot Anderson has, you will stay there. That's great to see for me, he want to give them the opportunity."
