Canada announced plans to launch dollar-for-dollar counter-tariffs starting Sept. 8, targeting U.S. sectors such as steel, dairy, electronics, and farming equipment.
Prime Minister Mark Carney called the U.S. proposal “a bad deal” and said Canada was “at war” with the U.S. during a 22-minute speech on Saturday. “We’ve recognized from the start that America has changed,” he said in an address to Canadians on Saturday. “We recognize that sometimes, its signature is written in pencil.”
U.S. Chief Trade Negotiator Jamieson Greer defended the administration's actions, emphasizing the need to protect American workers and supply chains.
