- The court was presented with text messages exchanged between the pair, including one sent by Flynn hours before calling 911 reading, 'I choose you. I'm free. Actions will come tomorrow,' and another where he agreed with a text from Botner expressing a desire to kill his wife.
- Flynn's defence team maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to charges including aggravated murder, and argued that while he made selfish decisions and had an affair, prosecutors lack a murder weapon or concrete evidence.
