MANILA, Philippines — A 39-year-old American facing seven counts of alleged violations of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act was arrested by police in Argao, Cebu, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
The suspect was arrested on November 5 in Barangay Poblacion after personnel of the Argao Municipal Police Station, under the Cebu Police Provincial Office, served a warrant issued by the court.
He faces seven counts under Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, with bail recommended at P366,000.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police are obligated to enforce court-issued arrest warrants regardless of the nationality of the person being sought.
“When the courts issue a warrant, we have the responsibility to implement it, whether the person involved is a Filipino or a foreign national. At the same time, we make sure that the rights of the accused are respected throughout the process,” Nartatez said.
