Amirudin: Allegations on PKR election transparency must be backed by evidence

ALLEGATIONS concerning the transparency of Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) internal elections, whether at the branch or central leadership level, must be substantiated with clear evidence, said party vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Speaking on Tuesday, Amirudin stated that the Central Election Committee (JPP) had undertaken its responsibilities conscientiously to ensure that the leadership election for the 2025–2028 term is conducted fairly and transparently.

“JPP has carried out re-voting processes in several branches where irregularities were found — this itself is evidence of JPP’s best efforts,” he told reporters.

“However, allegations persist, often coming from those who are disappointed or dissatisfied with the outcome. These must not be based on vague sentiments but grounded in facts. A comprehensive report and audit on the branch-level elections have already been presented to the central leadership,” he added.

The central leadership election is set to take place on 23 May from 8am to 5pm, using two voting methods. Physical voting will be held at Berjaya Waterfront Hotel and Danga Bay Convention Centre in Johor Bahru for delegates of the Central Congress, the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) and Women’s wings.

In Sabah and Sarawak, physical voting is scheduled at the International Technology and Commercial Centre (ITCC) in Penampang and the Penview Convention Centre in Kuching. Regular and additional delegates will cast their votes online via the ADIL app at the same time.

The PKR National Congress, including the AMK and Women’s congresses, is scheduled from 22 to 24 May in Johor Bahru.

Meanwhile, in Kelantan, the party’s State Leadership Council chairperson Datuk Seri Mohamad Suparadi Md Noor called on party members to remain mature and avoid fuelling divisions among leaders.

“Anyone can contest, but we must rally behind leadership that can drive the party forward, especially during elections,” he said during a press event following the ‘Jom Masuk U’ programme and an SPM 2024 Excellence Awards ceremony in Tanah Merah today.

“I believe PKR members are mature enough to vote wisely and select those best suited to lead,” he said. - May 13, 2025
