Amirudin cites Bukit Jalil disrepair after Najib’s snipe over Shah Alam Stadium

SHAH ALAM – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today took a jibe at former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over the latter’s comments blaming the state government for the deteriorating condition of Shah Alam Stadium.

Responding to criticism by Najib against the Pakatan Harapan government, Amirudin said Najib was prime minister when Bukit Jalil Sports Complex was refurbished for the 2017 SEA Games at a cost of more than RM1 billion.

“For him to criticise Selangor for the state of the Shah Alam Stadium is akin to Najib criticising himself as Bukit Jalil was also in a state of disrepair.

“This is mere politics. I don’t want to delve into politics,” he said at an event to announce refurbishment plans for Shah Alam Stadium.

Najib had said the stadium was only 14-years-old when the current government took over in 2008.

In contrast, the Barisan Nasional-initiated Bukit Jalil Sports Complex was completed in January 1998 for the Commonwealth Games that year.

Due to disrepair and lack of maintenance, it was upgraded in 2015 in time for the 2017 SEA Games.

However, Bukit Jalil Sports Complex is currently plagued by new maintenance issues. – The Vibes, July 15, 2022
