Ampang double fatality: College student faces murder charges over deadly dawn collision

A COLLEGE student accused of causing a fatal collision that claimed the lives of a husband and wife on a motorcycle has been charged with two counts of murder at the Magistrates’ Court in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

Danish Raman Kamar Kumaresan, 24, stood before Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri on Friday morning, where no plea was recorded after the charges were read out, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Prosecutors allege the accused intentionally caused the deaths of A Doraisingam, 65, and his wife, A Menagah, 56, during a collision that occurred at approximately 5.30am on 2 May along Jalan Ampang, on the route from KLCC towards Ampang Point.

According to investigators, the couple were travelling on a motorcycle when they were allegedly struck from behind by a car believed to have lost control near Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Preliminary findings indicate the impact caused catastrophic head injuries, killing both victims at the scene.

Both charges were brought under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the mandatory death penalty, or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years alongside no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane if capital punishment is not imposed.

The court scheduled 17 August for further mention pending the completion of post-mortem findings.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutors Faizal Noor Hadi and Mohd Sharizat Amadan, while the accused was represented by defence counsel Devinder Kaur Dhaliwal and Mansheel Kaur.

Head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, reportedly said blood and urine samples had been obtained from the accused and forwarded to the Chemistry Department for detailed forensic analysis. - May 15, 2026
