KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 - The remand of the driver in the fatal Jalan Ampang crash that killed a married couple on May 2 has been extended to Friday (May 15), starting today.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the extension order was granted by Kuala Lumpur High Court senior assistant registrar Munirah Wan Mustafa.
The 24-year-old male suspect was brought to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters lockup at 11am today for the extension application.
"The investigation papers will be referred to the Kuala Lumpur Deputy Public Prosecutor's office this afternoon for further instructions," he said in a statement today.
Previously, it was reported that the suspect had been remanded for seven days, beginning on Tuesday (May 5), to assist with the investigation.
The couple, aged 61 and 56, died at the scene when their motorcycle was rear-ended by a Toyota Vios at 5.34am.
The police have conducted toxicology tests to determine whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident. They are still awaiting the laboratory results.
The case, initially investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, has now been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
