Ampang LRT disruption: Land Public Transport Agency awaiting report from Prasarana

KUALA LUMPUR – The Land Public Transport Agency (LPTA) is still waiting for the report from Prasarana Malaysia Bhd regarding the Ampang LRT service disruption incident last month due to a kinked track alignment near the Bandaraya station.

In a statement, LPTA also said it is working with relevant government agencies to identify the cause of the incident.

It added that it did not accuse any party of being the cause of the incident.

“All the decisions made by LPTA are for the sake of public safety and it is the government's priority to regulate the country's public transport industry,” it said.

Meanwhile, Prasarana, in a separate statement, hoped that the public would refrain from speculating on the cause of the incident, instead wait for the full report of the investigation which was expected to be completed on February 16.

The company added that it has yet to come to any conclusion regarding the cause of the damage and that the investigation was ongoing.

A committee comprising officials from Prasarana, the Public Works Department, City Hall and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage had been formed to monitor the probe.

Due to safety concerns, the train service between Bandaraya and Masjid Jamek was suspended and, as an alternative, RapidKL provided free bus service to the commuters between the affected stations.

It also resulted in the Hang Tuah monorail station becoming the focal point of transit to other parts of the city via the monorail service. – The Vibes, February 10, 2023
