Last year only about 1,000 people got the scholarships compared to 5,000 people this year.

“There is no problem if any of the children have problems getting State Government scholarships. Please appeal and if you are still unable to apply for Yayasan Sabah and because there are student donations and if you are unable to, please also apply for the Sabah State Education Fund,” he said.

“If there are any more problems, we hope to meet again with the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS). Therefore, the excuse of not having the ability to study is no longer an excuse.

He advised students to study hard and at least get an SPM level education for career purposes.

“If you want to continue studying for a Diploma, the government will give another RM1,500 or RM2,000 for a Degree under the Budi assistance.

“As for SPM and before registering to sit for SPM, RM200 has already been given from Bakti assistance involving 40,000 Sabah children and the State has given three years before they sit for SPM or STPM.

“Therefore Sabahan children do not need to worry about financial problems now because our Chief Minister is very concerned about our children who want to continue learning,” he said.

He said there is also the CEO of Baitulmal Corporation who could help apply for scholarships and besides that, there is also the Department of Islamic Religious Affairs (Jhaeins) to consult about scholarships.

Dr Arifin emphasised that all Sabahan students can study up Diploma and Degree levels and urged parents not to worry about scholarships.

“I congratulate the founder of this Madarasah Datuk Ghulam Yacob and his family who voluntarily established this school in order to produce people literate in the Al-Quran.

The average student here is one who succeeds in securing progress in this world and the hereafter,” he said.
