Kota Kinabalu: Efforts by veterinary officers to save a baby elephant whose front leg was amputated after being caught in a snare trap failed – it died Tuesday afternoon due to organ failure. State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Jafry Ariffin, said the less-than-two-year-old elephant was given the best treatment after the amputation on Monday (pic).

“After the surgery, it showed very good development. It looked healthy and even ate and drank like a normal healthy elephant.

“However, the next day (Tuesday), it looked quite weak and depressed. Treatment and medication were done and it responded well.
