With over 120 deaths reported globally due to the ongoing Ebola virus outbreak, health experts have urged authorities and the public to remain alert against the possibility of another infectious disease emergency.

Dr Rajesh Gera, Director and Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Park Hospital, said India must stay prepared because of its huge population density and increasing international travel movement. He stressed that early identification of suspected cases remains the strongest defense against community transmission of the deadly virus.

“Ebola poses a different challenge in comparison to Covid-19 due to its high fatality rate and rapid progression,” said Dr Gera.
